The Run Data tab provides the run summary data for the BHA. The BHA ID group displays the fields used for identifying the BHA and referencing the Wellpath.
The BHA In/Out & Hours, Parameters and Surveys groups provide the summary data which is normally calculated from the Daily Report (Activities) and Wellpath data. Further summary data can be found on the Mud & Formations tab.
To facilitate storage of legacy BHA's in the database, or to enable calculating the BHA on temporary data (e.g. at a specific depth out if the definitive depth out is not known yet), summary data may be locked against overwriting when calculating the BHA.
When printing a BHA Pick Up report, BHA weight and Weight Below Jar are calculated according the to the minimum and maximum inclination and mud weight for the BHA. When picking up a BHA this data likely not be calculated as Depth In and Depth Out are not yet calculated for the BHA because there are no Daily Activities for that BHA. In this case, lock the Surveys and Mud Data sections, input a minimum and maximum inclination and create two mud records (one for minimum and one for maximum mud weight). Save the BHA and then print the report. As soon as data becomes available to correctly calculate the BHA, unlock the data sections so that they will be calculated correctly.
To understand how summary data is retrieved and aggregated, consider the top-level data structure shown below.

Summary data for a BHA is calculated in two steps;
First Depth In and Depth Out (along with date-time in, date-time out and hours) are calculated from the daily activities (operations) entered on the Daily Report form. This is achieved by labeling all daily activity records with an Activity Code, an End MD and – optionally – a BHA (refer to Daily Activities for further details).
The second step is to calculate the additional summary data (drilling parameters, formations, surveys and mud data). This is achieved by using the Wellpath Reference and the Depth In and Depth Out data of the BHA. Each BHA links to a specific wellpath which is set in the BHA properties dialog when a new BHA is created. As the BHA can only be linked to an existing wellpath, the wellpath must therefore exist before the BHA can be created in the database.
The reference wellpath may be changed at any time by selecting [BHA Properties…] from the [File] – [BHA] menu or the context menu (right-click) of the BHA on the main form. However, if this reference is changed, the BHA must be calculated to ensure all summary data is up-to-date and correct!
